How It Started
Skinny Bones Puppets was started in 2020 by me, Eleanor. While studying for my Master’s Degree in Animation at UCLAN in 2018, I realised just how expensive it was to make a quality stop-motion animation. Those who could afford ready-made armatures were already at an advantage both with regards to time saved, and puppet durability.
Of course, some animators (like me!) want to build their puppet from scratch - armature and all. However, for those who have more time-sensitive projects, or want to focus on other aspects such as animation or direction, I created Skinny Bones.
Since its release in 2020, the Skinny Bones armature has been improved and adjusted and I will continue to do so to ensure our customers get the best possible puppets.
The brass and steel materials come from UK suppliers, and I aim to use as little packaging as possible to reduce my environmental impact. The packaging I do use is nearly all recyclable cardboard and re-purposed packing paper.
Since 2020, Skinny Bones armatures have reached the homes of animators all over the world, and I’ve also worked with several universities and clubs. I am now offering custom armatures, and plan to release pre-made heads and hands in the near future.
